Send free SMS using Yahoo! Messenger

If you are Yahoo! Messenger user and interested in sending free SMS to your friend’s mobile phone who are residing in any of these countries, Yahoo! Messenger will do it for you.

To continue receiving SMS from you, the mobile user needs to reply to at least one of the three SMS sent by you from your Yahoo! Messenger. Each message can contain up to 148 characters. The recipient will also receive following SMS from Yahoo! Instructing to reply in order to continue the conversation “A Yahoo! user is trying to SMS you. When it arrives, select ‘Reply’ to continue the conversation”

Let me illustrate how to send SMS Text Message from Yahoo! Messenger.

To send SMS from Yahoo messenger download the latest version of Yahoo! Messenger and follow the steps given below.

There are three ways to start a text message. (Choose what’s easiest!)

- Click the “Actions” menu in Yahoo! Messenger and select ”Send an SMS Message”.


- Right-click the contact from the Messenger List and select Send an SMS Message.


- Click the text message icon in the address book.


Now enter your friend’s mobile phone number. Make sure you add the country code for International numbers.

Type your message and click Send.

Even though Yahoo! provides this service for free, the operators may charge you per SMS. There is no charge for receiving SMS in India.
