To install some Windows XP updates or upgrades like Media Player 11, you need to activate your copy of Windows XP. I will show you how you can validate your copy of Windows XP as genuine.
Follow these steps:
1. Go to “RUN” and type REGEDIT. Windows registry editor will pop up.
2. Now expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows NT\\CurrentVersion\\WPAEvents
3. On the right side, double-click on OOBETimer
4. In that windows, delete everything you can and exit.
5. Now, Go to “RUN” and type
%systemroot%\\system32\\oobe\\msoobe.exe /a
6. Activate Windows will pop up.
7. Choose Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate Windows and click Next
8. Now, press on “Change Product Key”
9. Enter new key as
THMPV-77D6F-94376-8HGKG-VRDRQ
10. Click on “Update”
11. Now, Click on “Remind Me Later”
12. Restart the Windows
13. When system reboots, go to “RUN” and type
%systemroot%\\system32\\oobe\\msoobe.exe /a
14. You will see on “Activate Windows” that Windows is already activated.
15. Press OK to exit.
You are DONE, Njoy!!

the Activate Windows which pop up in step6 is blank and only has blue color as background. Also there is no such file like OOBETimer

No such “Activate Windows” as given in step6 is popping up after i typed as instructed in the Run option.
Shashank..pl make sure you have an entry of OOBETimer in the registry. If you do not have, install the OOBETimer.reg mentioned in step 4.

When I open WPA it reads “Windows is already activated. Click OK to exit.
this means your windows is now genuine & active.
I encountered the same problem, but Windows still doesn’t recognize my copy as genuine. Any ideas?

seems like the product key is not working for you. Check google for some other serials keys

There is no msoobe.exe on my Windows XP SP2. I tried to search Google to get msoobe.xex but couldn’t get the real exe.
Can someone upload their msoobe.exe file somewhere so I can download it and run it to activate my XP?

STEPS:-
Click on Start
Find and Click “Run”
Type regedit
Click the plus next to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”
Click the plus next to “SOFTWARE”
Click the plus next to “Microsoft”
Click the plus next to “Windows NT”
Click the plus next to “CurrentVersion”
Click “WPAEvents”
On the right panel, find “OOBETimer” then double click it.
Now, Delete all the Values by highlighting it, then delete it
Then type in this value without the quotation mark “FF D5 71 D6 8B 6A 8D 6F D5 33 93 FD”
Then after that click OK,
Then on the left panel right click WPAEvents, then click on permissions
Then click System or SYSTEM, then Deny Full Control, then Click OK.
Then Exit Registry Editor by Click the X or the red X on the Upper Right of the Title Bar or press ALT and F4 at the same time.
To Very that it works, go to start, then “activate windows”, or go to start, then all programs, then “activate windows”
If it says that Windows has been activated.
