I think most of us had used Microsoft Office Outlook to access E-mails. Microsoft Office Outlook also give you power to run some application using rules and alerts. I will explain how you can shutdown your’s Windows PC just by sending an E-mail either from your smart phone or any other remote pc.
All you need is Microsoft Office Outlook with E-mail configured and GPRS enabled E-mail capable mobile phone (Or any remote pc with internet).
Let’s get started, create shutdown.bat file. Open notepad and type following command
C:\windows\system32\shutdown -s -f -t 00
and save it as shutdown.bat.

Get a pop3 capable email address, if you are a Gmail user you can configure Outlook for it. Click on “Tools” and select “Account Settings” in Outlook.

Account setting window will pop up. Select “New” and enter your E-mail settings.

Click on More Settings to check Incoming server (POP3) port and Outgoing Server (SMTP) port are properly configured or not.

Now Outlook is properly configured to receive you E-mail.
In order to run this shutdown.bat file you need to set some rules in Outlook. Click on “Tools” and select “Rules and Alerts”.

Rules and Alert window will pop up, you have to select condition for this rule. I have selected condition “from people or distribution list” and “with specific words in the subject”. For first condition I have chosen my Yahoo! E-mail id and for second condition I have chosen the word “Shutdown”.

Click on “Next” and select action as “start application”. Select the shutdown.bat file which you have created earlier. Click on “Next” and finish the rule.

You can now see my new rule “Shutdown Rule” displayed in Rule box. Click “Apply” and Press “OK”

Now to shutdown Windows you have to send an email to the Outlook configured E-mail from your smart phone or from some remote pc with subject having “shutdown” keyword.
As soon as outlook will receive your email with subject line “shutdown”, it will invoke the “Shutdown Rule” and shutdown.bat will run which will shut down your PC.
