Gone are the days when you needed PDF writer, to print web pages to PDF. Google Chrome web browser now has print preview function which can print webpage to PDF without having to install any third-party PDF writer.

To see print preview in Google Chrome, just right-click on the webpage and select Print option,  the preview will appear in a new tab.

From the destination printer, you can select the Print to PDF option to product PDF copy of the web page.

You can select pages (all or the selected pages), number of copies, your preferred page layout (portrait or landscape), choose color or black and white output, or option of header and footer to be included or not.

As you modify these options, the preview window updates immediately.

Click on the Print button and save the created PDF file.

I came across a file mirror solution from Uploading.to where you can upload your files to their server and it will be automatically distributed to several file sharing sites like Deposit Files, Uploading, Wupload, Turbobit, FileFactory, Uploaded, Hotfile, Megaupload, FilePost.com and Fileserve etc.

Upload size is limited to 400MB for free account. If you register on Uploading.to and enter your premium accounts, you can upload up to 2GB. You can upload up to 10 files at time. You can also select 10 different file sharing sites from the list.

After file is uploaded to their server, “copy link” button will appear at the bottom of the page. Just click the button and your link will be copied to share.

In one of my previous post, I posted about how to retrieve serial key of installed software, the software was good in retrieving all Microsoft keys and some other non-Microsoft software.

If you want to setup you computer system again, you will be installing all software you purchased. Paid software require serial key to complete the installation process. It’s always a good idea to back up all the serials/license keys, for later usage.

In this post, I will guide how to find serial keys of all the software installed on yours Windows machine.

License Crawler is a small portable utility which does not require installation. It can scan the Windows Registry for Windows product keys and other serial numbers and licenses.

It supports all versions of Windows operating system from Windows 95 over Windows 7 to Windows Server 2008 R2 (64Bit).

Steps to use License Crawler to retrieve serial keys from registry:

1. Download and extract the file.

2. Double-click on LicenseCrawler.exe to launch the application

3. By default, its looks under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in registry for serial number. If you want to search entire registry, select HKEY_ALL.

4. Select checkbox for 64 Bit scan, if you using 64 bit version of Windows OS.

5. High speed scan checkbox, is checked by default. If you do not get the key you are looking for in the search results, uncheck this field.

5. Click on Start Search

6. As you click on Start Search, you will get a pop-up advertisement for other piece of software, click on OK to close it.

7. Results will presented in text format which can be saved by clicking on File->Save.

An ISO image is an archive file or disc image, which is normally used to distribute large amount of data bundled for easy distribution, as ISO image can be easily rendered or burned to a CD/DVD.

I stumbled upon a cool utility which can create an ISO image from a folder in Windows. Folder2Iso can create an ISO from any kind of folder with the sub folders.

It’s a portable utility which does not require installation. To run the utility, extract the file you downloaded and double-click on Folder2Iso.exe.

Steps to create an ISO image using Folder2Iso:

1. Double click on Folder2Iso.exe

2. Select the folder for which an ISO is to be created

3. Select the output filename

4. Click on “Generate Iso”

Free utilities like dvddecrypter/imgburn can burn cd/dvd for free, so if you make an ISO easily you can burn your movies on CD/DVD for free.

So dvddecrypter/imgburn + Folder2Iso combine a totally freeware burning kit for all kinds of movies format.

If you are like me, who always leave applications open and running before hibernating the machine, so that next time I start my machine, I do not have open same program again.

You might have to restart the machine to complete some installation requirement or during some installation, it require to close all running applications to minimize the conflicts, in that case you have to start all closed applications all over again.

I stumbled upon a cool utility  known as SmartClose which automates the process of closing all running programs. It can also save the state of the system to a system snapshot, so all the programs that have been closed can easily be restarted later by SmartClose.

Close programs and create system snapshot with SmartClose:

1. Download and install SmartClose

2. Run the SmartClose program from the Start menu

3. Next select the option “Create a system snapshot and close all programs”

4. Check and uncheck the tasks, which you like to and click on Next.

5. You can select which program should be protected by SmartClose, so that it will never attempt to close or kill a protected program.

6. Select the default save option for system snapshot and click on Next.

7. Click on Start, SmartClose will close the running program and create a system snapshot.

Restore programs from system snapshots with SmartClose:

1. Run the SmartClose program from the Start menu

2. Next select the option “Restore a previously taken system snapshot”

3. Select the option “Restore the last saved system snapshot” and click on Next.

4. You can see what all programs will be restored back, click on Next.

5. You can set the system snapshot options for restore here, click on Next.

6. Click on Start to restore the programs.
